Campaign Brief:
Room 214 was tasked to create a web video to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Linux and tell the story of Linux' history in a fun, engaging way. This video was a key piece in a larger campaign and upscale event centered on the progress the OS has made over the past 20 years.
Objective:
Increase awareness of the Linux Foundation, the non profit that supports the ongoing development and growth of the Linux operating system.
Strategy:
We used an independent artist, stop-motion photography, and whiteboard animation to create an entertaining and engaging video which illustrated the story of how Linux was created, and the inspiring journey Linux has been through over the last 20 years.
Results:
- 175,000 YouTube views within two weeks of release, over 300,000 total
- Ranked the 9th most watched Sci/Fi video on YouTube within one week
- Mashable embedded the video on an article about Linux’ 20th anniversary. The
article received nearly 4,000 shares: 2,165 Tweets, 682 Facebook Likes, 1,013 Linkedin Shares
