tweetsforacauseOn May 5, 2009 at 11 a.m., Tweets for a Cause sent out its first tweet to encourage social media engagers to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate and to take a stand against breast cancer. The promotion of @tweetsforacause was initially spread through its team’s twitter follower bases (a total of more than one million aggregated followers) – setting off a retweet frenzy. Tweets included educational key messages such as “8 Signs Your Mom, Wife, Sister May Have Breast Cancer: http://bit.ly/wUSED.” Tweets for a Cause generated more than 2,900 link clicks in the first 20 minutes after its initial tweet.
